Bread

Inward austere cave, greatest love, forgot
There, unsullied soil, under coming dawn
Truest path engraved, where once all was begot
Silence, then, spills forth, from sigh of young lung’s yawn

Desert meeting ocean, way of Bedouin
“God please give me strength, for I have naught to eat.”
At once then did I hear, a voice call deep within…
“Hark, search not for bread from yonder bundle of thine wheat.”

A boon it truly is, fed from blessed tree
Seen firstly from mind’s eye, then to eyes to see
The bread of John the Saint, the path he paved with glee
To greatest love forgot,
His bread he gave to thee
